Haydock Racecourse
Haydock is one of the best courses in the United Kingdom, conveniently situated between Manchester and Liverpool it is the North West’s premier year-round track. Despite it’s closeness to the industrial centres of Manchester and Liverpool the actual course is set in woodland and tree-lined avenues.
The Industrial revolution catapulted Haydock Park from a small series of small local race meetings to the North West’s premier race track. Even today the course must be one of the most used in the country with racing on 33 days in 2011, combining both the very best of Flat and Jumps Racing.
When used for National Hunt racing the course has a flat, galloping track which given it’s testing drop fences, provides an ideal “trial” ground for Grand National horses, and also Cheltenham Festival entrants. Horses don’t jump badly here and win chases.
On the flat the course is a left-handed oval about 1 mile 5 furlongs round with a run-in of just under five furlongs.
Track Tip
Avoid those drawn in double-figures in 18+ runner sprints on soft or heavy ground.
Tough Jumps
Haydock Park is considered excellent preparation for Aintree and Cheltenham races.
Bumper Race Days
Haydock offers punters 33 racing days in 2011, making it one of the busiest racecourses in the UK.
