Hereford Racecourse
Hereford is a compact racecourse offering 16 competitive National Hunt fixtures in a friendly environment. A good-viewing, right-handed, galloping track, the lack of top quality racing is more than compensated for by the big fields and the pleasant, relaxed atmosphere.
Hereford is a long established fixture on the racing circuit. It opened for racing in 1771 and hosted regular Flat racing meetings until introducing its first hurdle track in 1840. Since then, Hereford Racecourse has provided a consistent series of National Hunt races, interrupting its racing schedules only during times of war. From 1946 onwards, racing at Hereford Racecourse became more and more popular, drawing not only an increasing number of spectators and punters, but also large numbers of race entrants. In 1975 Hereford was forced to divide its races to accommodate all the prospective starters, leading to a programme of 14 races. The track also attracted some legends of equine sport, including champion jockey Tony McCoy and trainer Martin Pipe, both of which displayed their skill and the talent of their charges to great avail at Hereford Racecourse. Since 2007 Hereford Racecourse stages an annual harness race.
Hereford Racecourse is located in Holmer, Herefordshire.
