Kelso Racecourse
Being set in the Scottish Borders, Kelso offers one of the most picturesque settings of all racecourses. Famed for its exceptionally long, uphill three furlong run-in, the course normally rides on the fast side. Marketed as Britain’s friendliest racecourse, Kelso also features a golf course in the centre of the track.
The Kelso area has been infatuated with the sport of horse racing since the 1700s; it has however been fickle when it came to picking the location of the race course. Running most races at Caverton Edge in 1734, following a few racing seasons held at Blakelaw; it wasn’t until the 12th July 1822 that the Kelso racing community made a commitment to the current racecourse at Berrymoss.
Until 1888 the dominant form of racing was the Flat races. However, when the United Border Hunt was moved to Kelso’s Berrymoss track that year the transformation of the racecourse into a National Hunt-only facility was almost instant.

Flat To Hunt
Kelso was a flat racing track until 1888, when the United Border Hunt moved to the course. Since then, Kelso has run exclusively under National Hunt rules.
