Longchamp Racecourse

The Longchamp Racecourse is located in Paris, France. The Seine River snakes around the course, Longchamps is a flat racing course and is famous for its hill that provides a real test for horse and jockey. Longchamp is not one racetracks but several racetracks varying from 1,000 to 4,000 metres in length. Longchamps has 46 official starting posts which can be used. The course host most of the group one races held in France. The highlight of the calendar is the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe. Held on the first weekend in October, the prestigious event attracts the best horses from around the world.

Longchamp also hosts the French 2,000 guineas and 1,000 guineas – called the “Poule d’Essai des Poulains” and “Poule d’Essai des Pouliches”.

Artistic Course

Longchamp was featured in a painting by Édouard Manet in 1867 and another four years later by Edgar Degas titled Race Horses at Longchamp.

The Big Race

The highlight of the calendar is the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.

History

The first race at Longchamp was in 1857. The Emperor Napoleon III and his wife Eugénie were present.
