Newmarket Racecourse

Newmarket is situated in the heart of Cambridgeshire approx 15 miles from both Ely and Cambridge. This flat course is considered the headquarters of Horseracing in the United Kingdom.

Newmarket actually has two courses. The first course is the ‘Rowley Mile’ which is a straight of 1 mile 2 furlongs, towards the last two furlongs the course dips first downhill and then up hill. The Rowley Mile is used for flat racing in Spring and Autumn months, In the summer Newmarket switches to the 1 mile ‘July Course’ also known as the ‘Bunbury Mile’ which is a straight course with a long downhill apart from the final furlong which is uphill.

Newmarket is home to some of the best group one flat races in the country, notably the 1000 and 2000 Guineas, Champion Stakes and the July Cup.
