Newton Abbot Racecourse

One of the leading courses on the summer jumping circuit, Newton Abbot is England’s most westerly racecourse. With continual racing from the end of May through to September, the course has become a firm favourite with National Hunt enthusiasts.

In 1866 the present location of Newton Abbot Racecourse was purchased by local racing enthusiasts to create a space to celebrate equine sport in the region. The racing took off immediately, growing hugely popular. However, it took quite some time until the racecourse was equipped with the trimmings of a proper racing venue. In 1969 her Majesty the Queen Mother opened the main grandstand at Newton Abbot Racecourse; the corporate facilities were not established until 1990. Today however, Newton Abbot has finally amassed all the mod cons needed to attract passionate racegoers and fans of quaint establishments alike.
